What will I study?

As ICT has evolved over time the Diploma course reflects the learning not only within ICT but in the wider counselling field. Studying at ICT will ensure you gain a thorough grounding in Humanistic practice (including Person-Centred, Gestalt, TA and Existential counselling) and you will be introduced to psychodynamic ideas, so developing a well grounded integrative practice.

Across the two years of the course candidates will study 7 units in total. They cover theory, skills, professional issues, diversity in counselling, research and personal development. The final unit is based around your counselling placement and is externally assessed.

How much will it cost?

The fee** for the course is £2200.00 per year (The total course fee is £4400.00 - 2021 entry)** A deposit of £350.00 is required to secure your place on the course.

Please note that the requirement for personal counselling and in some placements supervision costs will increase the overall cost of the course, although a number of counsellors do offer reduced rates to students. A list of local counsellors who have experience of working with counselling students will be offered to students.

What can I do next?

The Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling equips counsellors to practice in a variety of settings and contexts and many students go on to take further training, e.g. a level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling or a top up BA degree. A number of students from ICT have gone on to take a Masters Degree thus enabling them to pursue their research interest.

On successful completion of the course, students can apply to take the Certificate of Proficiency with BACP. This is a standardised assessment of the skills, knowledge and abilities required to be a professional counsellor or psychotherapist. It represents a level of competence that clients can expect.

Once students have satisfied all the criteria required for personal accreditation graduates are eligible to apply for individual accreditation with BACP and/or UKCP.
